The Lanusei Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the ultralight accident on the afternoon of 24 December , which fell in the waters in front of the Arbatax-Tortolì airport , in Ogliastra, 40 meters from the shoreline.
The two people on board were slightly injured in the accident, the pilot, a 65-year-old man, and a 34-year-old woman, promptly rescued by the people present on the beach and then by 118.
Immediately after take-off, the pilot realized that there was an engine failure and attempted to land but was unable to stay on the runway and ended up in the waters of Basaura beach .
The aircraft , recovered many hours after the accident by the fire brigade, was impounded .
The investigations are entrusted to the carabinieri of the Tortolì station. The Aero Club of Italy has also launched its own internal investigations to understand the reasons for the accident.
