A shortage of doctors so high that painful priorities need to be established. This, in addition to the professionalism of the operators, is also one of the aspects that emerged from the "World Mental Health Day" which Carbonia also hosted to raise awareness of mental health problems.

WHO data certifies that one in eight people globally experiences a condition of mental distress which can have an impact on their physical health, well-being, the way they relate to others and income. A condition that also affects a growing number of adolescents and young people in Sulcis.

Between the health district of Carbonia and Iglesias, around six thousand mentally ill people are taken care of, but in a context of serious shortage of doctors and nurses which forces the operators to have a huge surplus of work: «We believe that access to improved living conditions, inclusion, well-being and prevention of mental disorders are a universal right of all citizens, to be safeguarded and guaranteed", declared Mayor Pietro Morittu.

The appointment was so valuable for shining the spotlight on the operational methods of the healthcare staff , on how the service operates in the territory, in particular on the aspects that connect to the social-healthcare network between first contact of people who show suffering, the taking into load, rehabilitation.
