The Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will appear on 2 July in Court in Sassari as the offended party in the ongoing trial against two Sassari citizens, father and son aged 73 and 40, accused of having published counterfeit videos on an American pornographic website by adding the face of the prime minister on the bodies of the protagonists of hardcore scenes.

In the proceedings the Prime Minister became a civil party and in the filter hearing which was held this morning she was summoned to testify in court on 2 July. Represented by the lawyer Maria Giulia Marongiu, Meloni requested damages of 100 thousand euros.

A request which, as the lawyer explained in a previous hearing, "is intended to be a message to all women victims of this type of abuse not to be afraid to report". The sum that is eventually recognized will be donated to the Ministry of the Interior's fund for women victims of violence.

The Sassari court proceeds with ordinary proceedings only against the 40-year-old accused of the counterfeit videos; for the 73-year-old father, the defense lawyer Maurizio Serra, asked for probation and the judge will decide next week whether to accept the request.

The investigations into the fake and defamatory videos, conducted by the Sassari postal police, began in 2020. The investigators, using the nickname used by those who had published the videos on the website, traced back to the telephone user from which the data had originated and they managed to identify the alleged authors of the counterfeiting. According to the prosecutor's accusations, the 40-year-old had modified pornographic films and, using specific software for the graphic manipulation of videos, had placed Giorgia Meloni's face on the bodies of the hardcore actresses. The videos remained online for several months, garnering millions of views around the world.
