"A video circulates on WhatsApp in which some hunters from Villacidro show with evident pride and satisfaction an impressive quantity of wood pigeons probably killed in the Nuorese countryside and arranged on a long, squalid table".

The complaint comes from the Lipu (Italian League for the Protection of Birds), through the regional coordinator Francesco Guillot.

"This is a useless massacre that damages not only the environment but also all hunters who are respectful of the limits dictated by the law - observes Guilllot -. We have estimated at about 400 specimens killed to which we must add all those who, injured, they went to die far away and those who failed to recover. The wood pigeon Columba palumbus is the largest European pigeon, with a wingspan of 75 to 80 cm and can weigh from 460 to 570 grams. Nesting species in Sardinia, in during this period the wintering and walking specimens are added. We remind you that according to the regional law and the hunting calendar, the maximum number of animals killed per day is 15 for each hunter ".

From what is learned, Lipu itself has sent a report to the competent authorities and is considering taking legal action against those responsible for the incident.
