Concentrated gazes, hands moving with dexterity and rhythmic shouts breaking the silence: the 2026 Regional Murra Tournament has once again transformed Mandas into an arena with an ancient flavour , attracting players and fans from all over the island and even from the mainland.
This year's edition recorded significant numbers and a particularly high technical level , with the participation of teams from numerous towns in Sardinia (Ula Tirso, Villanovatulo, Ghilarza, Bonarcado, Ollolai, Jerzu, Dolianova, Serri, Siurgus Donigala, Gergei, Escalaplano, Seulo, Aritzo, Lanusei, Orgosolo and Decimomannu) and some players from Friuli Venezia Giulia, guests of honour at the event.
After a hard-fought group stage, the competition kicked into high gear with a nerve-wracking final. Davide Perra and Cristian Spano, representing Mandas, competed for the title against Carlo Allegria and Leonardo Dionis of Jerzu. It was a tense match, featuring pinpoint calls and lightning-fast readings of their opponents, where a simple misjudgment could have changed the course of the match. Ultimately, Perra and Spano prevailed, demonstrating greater clarity in decisive moments and thus winning the regional title in front of their home crowd . Allegria and Dionis finished second, while third place went to the pair of Paolo Locci and Ignazio Frau of Aritzo. Fourth place went to Paolo Cottu and Simone Columbu of Ollolai.
There was also room for national competition: in the first tournament against the Friulian team, victory went to Carlo Allegria and Leonardo Dionis, who put in another high-level performance. The organizers were delighted with the success of the event, which continues to grow year after year in both participation and the quality of play.
"Murra is not a game of chance, but a close dialogue between two minds," said Davide Perra and Cristian Spano, the newly crowned champions who have been organizing this important regional tournament for sixteen years. And at the end, amid applause and local pride, the most anticipated result was announced: the "coppone" (cup) remains in Mandas, confirming a tradition that lives on here with strength and passion.
