Every animal has the right to a home, care, and the affection of a family . This belief underpins the awareness campaign promoted by the Municipality of Sassari – Environment and Public Parks Department , with the aim of combating stray animals, preventing abandonment, and spreading a greater culture of respect and responsibility toward animals. Launched a few days ago with the first posters, it will continue until the end of the summer and will be distributed throughout the municipality, with posters and informational materials designed to reach and engage as many people as possible. Furthermore, the content will be shared on the Municipality's social media channels to reach beyond the boundaries of the municipality, which is among the largest in Italy.

"Behind every dog or cat living on the streets, there is no freedom, but often a story of abandonment, loneliness, and suffering. This is why the campaign sends a strong and direct message: 'No one is born a stray. Abandonment is a betrayal,'" explains Pierluigi Salis, Councilor for Ecological Transition, Land Protection, and Urban Decor . It invites us to reflect on the consequences of an act that breaks a bond of trust and leaves animals to face difficulties and dangers alone. Abandonment is not just an irresponsible act: it is a wound that affects the entire community. All the content features particularly tender and evocative photos. Nearby, a QR code links to the Municipality's website, which contains all the useful information for those wishing to adopt a dog and an email address to contact.

The campaign also draws attention to the importance of sterilization: a conscious choice that helps prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of animals destined for homelessness. At the same time, it promotes the value of adoption: a concrete gesture that can change an animal's life and bring new emotions to those who decide to adopt one. The campaign also addresses another important issue: respect for public spaces. Being a responsible pet owner means caring not only for your pet, but also for the city. Part of the communication campaign will focus on this, with simple yet effective reminders to use bags for waste collection and water for cleaning public spaces: one is a requirement subject to fines, while the other is a small but important gesture, a sign of care that contributes to making Sassari cleaner, more dignified, and more livable for all.

"Building a more caring and respectful community begins with each individual's daily choices. Sterilizing, adopting, not abandoning, and respecting common spaces are actions that make a difference and help build a more aware, supportive, and animal-friendly city," concludes Councilor Salis.
