There are not enough doctors working at Ascot in Macomer . Even though the health center started by the ASL, in collaboration with the Municipality, which includes Ascot and medical care, guarantees 24-hour health care, it is difficult to meet the demand from approximately 8 thousand patients, also from nearby centers, who no longer have a family doctor .

In the clinic on Viale Piemonte, long queues form, with up to a hundred patients waiting, including many elderly people, forced to wait their turn for up to four or five hours and often then sent away at the end of visiting hours .

It is therefore impossible to even request a certificate of civil disability or INPS, patients report. Some suggest going to the medical emergency service. But this, despite being in the same building on Viale Piemonte, can only write prescriptions for an urgent drug, it cannot replace the daily Ascot service and prescribe drugs for chronic diseases.

This is clearly written in the notices hanging in the clinic. The mayor, Riccardo Uda, was informed of the situation and immediately asked for the intervention of the ASL . «I forwarded the problem to the ASL management to find a solution. They assured me that they would intervene. I trust and wait». However, the ASL is willing to solve the problem. «Thanks to the commitment of the general manager, the district management and the mayor of Macomer - says the director, Maria Giovanna Porcu - we have created a health facility within the town, including Ascot and medical guard, guaranteeing 24-hour service. Beyond this, what do we have to do? We understand the inconvenience, but it is already a lot to have a facility within reach. The problem is the lack of doctors , which is not just in this area. We will work to further improve the service».
