Happy birthday to Luisetta Mercalli, Cagliari's longest-lived woman, who has crossed the remarkable milestone of 108 years.

The party, which took place in the RSA of Su Planu, was also attended by the president of the municipal council Edoardo Tocco , who brought her the wishes of the mayor Paolo Truzzu on behalf of all citizens, also giving her a commemorative medal and a souvenir parchment .

Born in Carloforte on 17 February 1915 to Piergiorgio Mercalli and Limbania Rivano, Luisetta lived at the turn of two millennia.

She saw the two world wars up close and had to deal with pandemics from an early age considering that she survived just three years of the "Spanish flu" which between 1915 and 1918 claimed millions of victims all over the world.

She dedicated her life to her family and work, alternating between Cagliari, where she attended elementary school at the "Carlo Felice", Veneto, where she graduated in Padua at the School of Method (Women's Technical Institute), and Carloforte where, at the age of 17, he began teaching first music and choral singing, then home economics.

Since 1951, Luisetta Mercalli's teaching activity has continued in Monserrato, after she married Luigi Quaquero.

After moving to Cagliari after her marriage, Mrs. Mercalli worked at the Alfieri Middle School until 1979 to then enjoy, surrounded by the affection of her two daughters, Angela Maria and Myriam, and her three granddaughters Alice, Francesca and Elena, a well-deserved rest .
