The long-awaited Caretta caretta hatchlings emerged from the sand last night on Lu Impostu beach. Around three in the morning the small sea turtles reached the shoreline under the eye of the video camera installed at the end of July by the biologists of the Marine Protected Area of Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo, who announced the happy event with a post on its Facebook page : «We are particularly happy and excited by this event, which required an extraordinary commitment on the part of our biologists and the entire Regional Network for the Conservation of Marine Fauna».

After the hatching of two further nests of which we were not aware, tonight's was certainly the most awaited event since, in July, a large specimen of Caretta caretta was filmed while laying its eggs during the night. Since then, biologists from the Olbia protection body have fenced and video-monitored the area around the nest 24 hours a day, guaranteeing protection for the eggs and arriving chicks.

Throughout this period, the Municipality of San Teodoro has collaborated with the staff of the marine area, offering maximum availability for the care of the nest and making personnel, means and a lot of passion available, all with the complicity of the bathers who with enthusiasm and curiosity they showed attention and respect for the nursery. During these hours the area will continue to be monitored while waiting for all the baby turtles to leave the nest.
