To enhance the ancient Castle of Ogliastra, the Municipality of Lotzorai has joined the circuit of the Italian Institute of Castles . "It is the will of the administration to carry out the castle recovery project and make it enjoyable to also guarantee its inclusion in the local tourist circuit", is the founding principle of membership.
The Institute is a cultural organization founded in 1964 on the initiative of Piero Gazzola and established as a non-profit organization, recognized by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage in 1991. This morning the Institute delegation took visitors by the hand during the study day between Castello d'Ogliastra (the legendary name is Medusa ), which represents one of the most significant evidence of the Middle Ages in the area.

The fort, bordered by two rivers, the Paramaera and the Rio Girasole, was built to guard the pond and the precious landing place , probably to be identified with the ancient Sulpicius portu, as well as the iron, copper and silver mines which were located nearby . The age of its first construction is not known with certainty. Probably built in the Judicial age , it is assumed that it was built on the ruins of a Nuragic structure and a subsequent Punic-Roman temple.

After that, at the culmination of the visit to the castle, the delegation of experts moved to the ancient church of Sant'Elena and, in the afternoon, to the hypogeal necropolis of Fund 'e Monti-Tracucu . The moments of study took place in the presence of the municipal administrators, led by the mayor Cesare Mannini, and of history enthusiasts who entertained themselves by listening to the stories about the origins of the ancient treasures of the town.
