A race against time saved the life of a 12-year-old boy in mortal danger.

The young man, admitted to the Brotzu Hospital in Cagliari for a serious medical condition, was urgently transferred to the Gaslini Institute in Genoa thanks to a complex medical transport mission.

The operations took place in two phases: late yesterday afternoon, an Italian Air Force Falcon 900 took off from Ciampino base for Genoa to embark the specialized medical team and the equipment needed for extracorporeal life support (ECMO), essential given the patient's critical condition.

Arriving in Cagliari late in the evening, the plane departed for Genoa at 1:25 a.m. Upon arrival, the boy was immediately transferred by ambulance to the Gaslini Institute for lifesaving treatment. The aircraft and crew then resumed operational readiness from Ciampino base. The operation was authorized and coordinated by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
