“Let's Dress in Life, the Strength of Fragility”: this is the spirit that will animate the third edition of an event scheduled for Saturday from 11 am at San Giovanni di Dio. The patients of the Palliative Care and Pain Therapy Center and some health workers of the Cagliari University Hospital will parade together with ten children from the Speech Therapy of San Giovanni di Dio.
The event is sponsored by the University Hospital of Cagliari and the Municipality of Cagliari and will be held with the support of Viola by Pullover, HMG, Biosphaera, Is Femminas, Viviana Altana, Korff, Rilastil, Super Animatori, Cagliari Calcio, EflowerS Piante e Fiori, professional make-up artists and hair stylists who will dedicate the day to this event that celebrates life beyond illness.
For a day, the models will wear the creations of the Sardinian designer Viola Palmieri and will tell the story of their journey through treatment and living with the disease, while the little patients will walk the red carpet holding hands with their favorite heroes, thanks to the participation of the Super Animators.
"The Center for Palliative Care and Pain Therapy", explains Dr. Maria Cristina Deidda, oncologist and palliative specialist at San Giovanni di Dio, "with this third event, wanted to talk about the need to build "the network" around fragile people, in agreement and synergy with the other nodes of the support network for palliative care (the territory, general practitioners, hospitals and hospices). A network dedicated to adult patients but also a network that takes care of children. In this third edition, the main element will be art therapy, essential in palliative care, to provide our women, with the beauty of clothes and make-up, the revaluation of their body and their femininity and at the same time provide fragile children, with play together with their superheroes, the humanization of care".
"Oncological pathology produces a modification of the image of the Self and of one's body image, and we help patients", continues Dr. Deidda, "to see themselves as people and not as their disease often, until the end. It is their right to still feel beautiful, to be looked at without pity, to feel "seen" despite the pain and symptoms. Through the use of art therapy (in addition to aesthetics, live singing and theatrical reading) it is possible to help patients to bring out emotions to let the most difficult to manage ones flow, in an immediate and instinctive way".
«To be able to create this fashion show event», concludes the specialist, «an all-female team was involved, composed of the founding members of the Volunteer Organization "Vestiamoci di Vita" composed of health workers, patient caregivers and Viola Palmieri who dresses the participants with the creations of Viola by pullover».
