In Sardinia both accidents with injuries (-12%) and fatalities (-7.1%) as well as deaths (-13.3%) decreased.
This is what emerges from the report of the State Police which carried out 12,084 road patrols on the island from the beginning of the year to 31 December 2022.
Compared to 2021, speed control services have been strengthened, with 675 services with speed meters (+8.5%). 30,464 traffic violations (+11.5%) were contested, of which 4,056 for speeding (+21.7%) and 61,457 driving license points reduced (+13.2%).
In the period under review , checks on the use of restraint systems (use of seat belts by drivers and passengers) were also intensified , during which 3,547 infringements were contested (+22.7% compared to 2021), and on the use of the mobile phone while driving, where 991 infringements were ascertained (+20.1%).
807 drivers (+34.5 compared to 2021) and 18 (+38.4%) were fined for driving while intoxicated for driving under the influence of narcotic or psychotropic substances. The documents withdrawn in 2022 were: 2,632 driving licenses (+33%) and 1,308 vehicle registration certificates (+5.3%).
To contain the phenomenon of the so-called "Saturday night massacres", 277 control services were carried out over the weekends, with the use of over 400 patrols .
In the course of operations by the Judicial Police, 11 people were arrested or detained and reported to the Judicial Authority 725, in particular, for violations related to environmental and road traffic offences. 7,562 people checked, 54 vehicles seized, while 3 vehicles were found following theft. There were 67 checks on public establishments involving car wreckers, mechanical workshops, body shops and car practice agencies and 7 administrative violations were ascertained .
