Unions and workers on a war footing after the breakdown of negotiations with Federdistribuzione for the renewal of the national labor contract , which expired in 2019. The agreement reached last week with Confcommercio and Confesercenti had given rise to hope. But there has been no good news for Modern Organized Distribution . The failed agreement - close to the Easter holidays - led to the proclamation of a national strike for Saturday 30 March and «the unavailability to work for the days of 31 March and 1 April for all workers working in companies in the entire sector territory of the Sardinia Region", as announced by the Sardinian secretariats of the acronyms involved.

Filcams Cgil , Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs underlined in a statement that «in addition to expressing all our opposition to the non-renewal of the national collective agreement, we will give visibility to the dispute through a demonstration in front of the Prefecture of Cagliari on March 30th from 10 to 12» .

«We want to reiterate once again – continues the note – the right to enjoy the Easter holidays. Pursuant to the current CCNL, failure to perform work on March 31st and April 1st must be considered as sanctified holidays and without any salary deduction. On the days mentioned above, any replacement of absent workers with external staff, temporary workers and/or training internships, will be prosecuted by us pursuant to Law 300 of 1970 as actions of resistance to the strike and/or anti-union conduct".

The unions also made it known that the business association, after a "nerve-wracking" negotiation and 51 months after signing the sector's collective bargaining agreement, has shown resistance to the signing of new union agreements. «Already during the last round of negotiations, the signing of the DMO CCNL, which took place on 19 December 2018, came 45 months after the signing of the Confcommercio TDS CCNL (which took place on 30 March 2015). This delay translated into a net loss for the workers of the modern organized distribution of the order of several thousand euros in terms of lower salary received during the contractual validity period compared to their colleagues who, despite carrying out the same tasks and by operating in the same sector, they received more significant economic treatments".
