One of Sandro Congia's many Sunday rides came to an abrupt end this afternoon . The doctor, retired for years, lost control of his bike while riding along the provincial road to Boroneddu on Via Giovanni XXIII and ended up in a ditch.
A flight of several meters, a very violent impact and Sandro Congia remained immobile at the bottom of the cliff.
The alarm was raised immediately, and 118 emergency workers arrived on the scene: the cyclist's condition immediately appeared to be extremely serious. After receiving initial treatment on the scene, he was transferred to the San Francesco Hospital in Nuoro with a critical condition.
Initial findings suggest he suffered a serious head injury; the prognosis is currently guarded. He underwent delicate surgery. The Carabinieri of Ghilarza also responded to the provincial road and conducted an examination.
