For this reason, the Port Authority has issued an ordinance requiring safety distances to be maintained, warning of the activities that will be carried out in a vast stretch of sea by the Orca II, a vessel operating on behalf of Ichnusa Wind Power, the company that plans to build a gigantic offshore wind farm off the southwest coast of Sardinia. The 42 turbines will have a maximum height of 320 meters. If built, the turbines will be "capable of supplying the electricity needs of approximately 610,000 families."

Last May, the Srl (a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Green IT – which in turn comprises Plenitude, a subsidiary of Eni, and CDO Equity of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti group) submitted a significant amount of documents to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, supplementing the project plans and construction proposals requested by Mase. Comments could be submitted until June.

The plan now includes field tests. For this reason, the vessel has been given the green light to operate from September 23 (today) to October 22, 2025: the Ichnusa Wind Power project is still a live one. According to ministerial tables, only the Ministry of Culture's opinion is needed to reach a final decision.
