The Nostra Signora della Mercede hospital in Lanusei is dealing with another emergency. After the closure of the birth center, of Pediatrics and Cardiology, the activity of the emergency room is now also at risk, in trouble due to the shortage of doctors.

"Yesterday an elderly lady from a neighboring town was thrown in hospital for 12 hours before she was examined - explains Adriano Micheli, coordinator of the #giulemanidallogliastra association, for the rights of the sick - It's always the same problem: there are no doctors and no it is also planned when you know in advance that a professional may retire. For the managers of the Asl, for Ares and for the Department of Health, the easiest way is to close, but this is not the way to solve the problems for which they have been entrusted with the task. Here people are being forced to stop taking care of themselves or to become a medical immigrant in the peninsula, giving up many other things. We continue our virtual occupation of the hospital since we cannot do physical employment : the new management of the Asl programs, find the doctors who are missing to give definitive solutions to the hospital ".

In the ward at risk of closure there would be only three doctors who have to make it functional 24 hours a day with grueling shifts.

For tomorrow, meanwhile, the reopening of the birth point closed at the end of December and which is forcing the pregnant women of the area to go to give birth in Cagliari and Nuoro is expected: "We will see if they respect the times they have given for the reopening of the ward. - Micheli concludes - Meanwhile, we await a solution also for Pediatrics and Cardiology: in the latter department, doctors only guarantee emergencies and outpatient visits ".
