Not just deer. In Laconi there is also an invasion of those who collect truffles . With all the inconveniences involved: damaged private lands, invasion of cars in the countryside and a product that risks disappearing over time. But now it changes. A few days ago the Regional Council approved the law that regulates the collection, cultivation, marketing and valorisation of truffles. A result that the Laconi administrators had been waiting for for some time after having requested regulation for the withdrawal several times.

Mayor Salvatore Argiolas : «Now we can finally study projects to promote one of our excellences . In our country there are periods in which there are more truffle collectors than tourists. The Municipality has been asking for legislation for 20 years, now it's finally there." For the first time it will be mandatory to respect rules on the quantity to be taken, where to collect the truffle and how. But not only that: this delicacy can only be collected by those who have a license following a suitability exam.

«In this way the raid will end - explains Mayor Argiolas -. Many times many truffle collectors have even tampered with the fences of the land. Without forgetting that many people dig using the wrong methods. In this way the truffle - concludes the mayor - can become a niche product which will also have an influence on the local economy. This law that we have been clamoring for will be a driving force for the development and growth of the community where the truffle has fundamental importance."
