Since last September, the Bargone family - we read in a municipal resolution from a few days ago - had confirmed its desire to deliver, for an indefinite period, out of a pure spirit of freedom, a wooden sculpture representing an eagle, in favor of the Municipality of The Magdalene. And in the same resolution the donation was accepted, with the intention of then being «placed in the historical position on the first floor, where the brackets are already present, outside the building commonly called “Bargone” located at the beginning of Via Garibaldi ».

The news posted by the mayor, Fabio Lai, is from these hours: «The Historic Aquila in via Garibaldi has been acquired as municipal heritage». Delegate Adriano Greco echoes him: «I am happy with this result. For me it is a source of great satisfaction to have contributed to ensuring that this beautiful monument which in its own way speaks of the history of the City has become part of the municipality." At this point, adds the heritage delegate Luca Falchi, "it will be important to conclude what we have started by recovering the funds necessary to present the restoration project to the superintendence and proceed with the recovery intervention".

It is a wooden artefact made by some convicts from the penal colony, functioning in Moneta between the end of the 19th century and part of the 20th century. The Bargone family, owners of a building built in Via Garibaldi at the beginning of the last century, had it placed on the top east corner of the building, and it remained there for about eighty years, becoming the symbol of that entrance to the street , and giving the name to some commercial activities that operated in the adjacent premises. Dismantled because it needed restoration, it has been missing from that corner for a few decades. Since it apparently dates back to 1904, it is hoped that in 2024, after 120 years, once restored, it will be able to reappear there in its majesty.
