They were absent from their post for reasons unrelated to the service and for this reason the Coast Guard fined them over three thousand euros.

The fine was imposed on the lifeguards assigned to rescue the sea on three renowned beaches of La Maddalena , during a series of checks aimed precisely at verifying compliance with the rules established by the Seaside Safety Ordinance.

During the week of August 15th, the men and women of the Captaincy of La Maddalena also carried out various rescue interventions for boaters: last August 10th, a pleasure boat, which was sailing near Cala Garibaldi on the Island of Caprera, began to take on water and the Search and Rescue CP 870 patrol boat promptly intervened to make sure of the health conditions of the occupants (father and daughter) and with the support of the personnel and means of a local company specialized in underwater interventions proceeded to escort the pleasure craft to the nearest shipyard for the necessary repairs.

On 15 August, however, the patrol boat intervened to provide assistance to two people, one with severe back pain due to an accidental fall on board a private boat and the other taken ill on board a unit used for passenger transport engaged in the tour of the smaller islands of the La Maddalena archipelago. The two rescued people were immediately transported to the tourist port of Cala Gavetta, entrusted to the care of the 118 Service and accompanied to the emergency room.
