A new latest generation 128-slice CT scan has been installed at the Paolo Merlo hospital. «This machine is the most powerful and high-performance that can be had – states the general director of the ASL, Marcello Acciaro – which allows the radiology of La Maddalena to take on, after many years, an important role in the logic of strengthening the territory. It will not only work for the citizens of La Maddalena but it is a clear vision towards the entire north of Gallura. We will focus on cancer patients who are subject to having frequent check-ups. This radiology looks to the future."

However, the new CT scan is not yet operational: «The technical times require the testing of the machinery by March 25 - explains Luca Pilo, head of the Paolo Merlo emergency room - after which we will move on to training the technical staff and medical managers for whom we plan to be operational during the first week of April and therefore able to continue the great activity we have carried out in recent months. The renovation of the premises to position this technologically advanced machine was a successful bet that will allow us to significantly improve the diagnostic quality and effectiveness of the diagnosis process with patients."

In the meantime, a "portable" CT scan continues to guarantee the service, as has been the case for some months now. The mayor, Fabio Lai, does not hide his satisfaction, defining the new instruments installed as «a flagship of our healthcare unit; strengthening the Paolo Merlo in all its departments translates into a decongestation of the reference point of Olbia".
