The vaccination campaign of the Cagliari Local Health Authority against influenza is underway: there are 140 thousand doses available.

«According to the timing indicated by the Ministry of Health and the Region, from mid-October, we began the distribution of doses against the flu, in particular to those who are the real protagonists of the vaccination campaign, i.e. general practitioners. In fact, let's not forget that in Sardinia 75% of vaccinations are carried out in their clinics, but also in hospitals, nursing homes and nursing homes", explains Gabriele Mereu, head of the Vaccinoprophylaxis Service of ASL 8.

«Already around 40 thousand vaccines», he adds, «have been distributed in the area and in the next few days another 40 thousand doses will arrive and will be distributed to family doctors and healthcare facilities, while the remaining doses will be delivered in November».

The vaccine is intended in particular for people over 65, fragile populations, pregnant women and in the postpartum phase, long-term care patients, people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart and respiratory diseases or immune system problems, certain categories of workers such as health and social-health personnel, police forces and firefighters, farmers or those who work in contact with animals, to blood donors. Even pediatricians of free choice have joined the campaign this year: vaccination is recommended for children between 6 months and 5 years, as well as for fragile children and adolescents of all ages.

«Vaccinating is important to protect oneself but also all those around fragile subjects», underlines the general director of the ASL Marcello Tidore, «through the vaccine you can avoid the complications of the disease and thus also avoid saturating the structures health care for pathologies for which it is possible to reduce the risks".

Influenza, but not only: «At the Binaghi hospital we started anti-covid vaccinations several weeks ago through booking with the web cup platform on the sardegnasalute.it website», concludes Mereu, «the two vaccinations (anti-flu and anti-covid) can be carried out at the same time".
