The price of fuel continues to rise, Sardinia is among the most expensive regions and the alarm is raised by road haulage companies: "The profits risk disappearing."

The bulletin from the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy for today, 18 September, says that the average at the pump on the island is 1,965 euros per liter for diesel and 2,025 for petrol. Only Liguria is worse off.

«The umpteenth increase in the cost of fuel is going to affect the future of the approximately 2,300 road transport companies in Sardinia, of which 1,500 are artisans, on the over 4 thousand employees, on the movement of 80% of the goods throughout the island, and , consequently, on the activity of Sardinian companies, especially the smaller ones": the analysis is by Confartigianato Imprese Sardegna.

In the last two months, it is estimated, the cost of diesel has increased by 12 percent, with a growing trend of 1.5 cents per day.

According to a survey by the research office of the trade association, in Italy fuel pump prices remain among the highest in Europe: we are in 6th place in the EU 27 for both petrol and diesel. The price increases for petrol were 14.4% compared to last year, while for diesel the increase stopped at 2.7%. In Italy the price of fuel at the pump is 6.6% higher than the EU 27 average.

«Considering that spending on fuel affects the total costs by 30%», comment Maria Amelia Lai and Daniele Serra, president and secretary of Confartigianato in Sardinia, «if the price of diesel continues to rise, it risks losing the I earn".

For this reason, at a national level, continues President Lai, «we have called for interventions to keep prices under control and avoid speculation but also to reduce the tax component. In fact, in absolute value, Italy has the highest taxation on fuel among the 27 EU countries: it accounts for 53.4% of the price at the pump, more than three percentage points higher than the 49.8% of the Eurozone ».
