In Urzulei , the town of origin of the mother's parents, they created a wooden sculpture in memory of Mattia Luconi, the child who was victim of the flood that swept through the Marche on 15 September last year.

The work was placed in the parish garden on the initiative of the San Filippo Neri oratory with the contribution of the population of Urzulei.

The ceremony was presided over by the parish priest, Don Marco Congiu, who blessed the commemorative statue in the presence of a large crowd, moved and gathered in prayer, including many of the doctor's family members.

Silvia Mereu, Mattia's mother, was unable to be there, but thanked her from the Marche region : «A huge thank you for the important demonstration of closeness, affection and respect. Mattia is in your heart as in mine, we are all united in his memory."

The tragedy of little Mattia had caused dismay and pain throughout Italy.
