"It's a lunar landscape here today." While the municipal operations center is still meeting, the mayor of Noragugume (Nuoro), Michele Corda, speaks after a hellish day during which he was even ready to evacuate part of the town due to the flames that came dangerously close to the houses before veering towards the pastures.

"There are farms where the entire year's forage reserves have gone up in smoke. Around 22-23 of them have suffered damage, with pastureland destroyed."

Not only that, " There are dead animals, including sheep and cattle . We're talking about an extension of the fire that, in my opinion, goes beyond the estimated 500 hectares, perhaps we're already at a thousand hectares," he observes. "I don't have certain data measured in the field, but it must be considered that the municipality of Noragugume has around 2,600 hectares of land, a little more, and now almost half of it is completely burned."

The fire should now be under control and cleanup is underway.
