Between memory lapses and admissions, Fulvio Baule was heard in the courtroom in the trial for the double murder that occurred in February 2022: it also reduced his ex-wife, Ilaria Saladdino, to the point of dying"I don't remember attacking my wife or even my father-in-law, I only remember my mother-in-law's body lying on the ground and me bloodied with the ax in my hand." Fulvio Baule, the forty-year-old from Ploaghe who killed his in-laws, Basilio Saladdino and Liliana Mancusa, on 26 February 2022, in Porto Torres , reducing his wife, Ilaria, to death , has not retained the memory of the phases of the massacre. Saladdino, from whom he had just separated.
Before the Court of Assizes, presided over by judge Massimo Zaniboni, the accused answered the questions of the prosecutor Enrica Angioni, of the civil party lawyers, Gabriele Satta, Silvia Ferraris and Gian Mario Solinas, and of his defender Nicola Lucchi.
«That evening I brought the children back to my wife. We argued but I don't think I attacked her." Then the memory lapses. The children in the courtyard and him leaving throwing the ax on the ground. " I heard screams coming from the building, from the windows, and I ran away", Baule continues in his story. «Then I went to turn myself in. The police asked me: "What did you do?" I replied "I don't know, a murder".
«I had put the ax in the car the day before», he explained in response to the prosecutor's questions, because I had to go with my father to cut some wood. I didn't want to kill my in-laws. I hadn't seen them since November. What I did, I didn't do it maliciously."
Depositions from Baule's parents and sister, and three friends of the couple, were also heard in the courtroom. They all described the very tense relations between the families of the accused and his wife, and the furious argument that took place between the in-laws in August 2021, during the baptism party of the couple's twin children. Intractable conflicts that irreparably damaged the couple's relationship, leading to separation and tragedy.
