The "invisibles" that the Red Cross with its street unit also helps at Christmas in Cagliari and its hinterland are increasing by 30%.

The volunteers leave at 7.30pm from Viale Merello on board an ambulance, bringing food and blankets to around 60 people. People for whom Christmas, if possible, is a sadder day than others because the loneliness is felt more in what should be a day of sharing and conviviality.

In Pirri there is Giuseppe's house, an old car parked in front of a supermarket. There the Red Cross volunteers bring food and warmth, to give meaning to the word solidarity. Giuseppe will never forget the nightmare Christmas he experienced a few years ago: «I was attacked with a screwdriver at 5 in the morning, blood came out everywhere and I ended up at Brotzu».

Paoletto's few words give all the sense of the sadness of the last ones: «Christmas? A normal day like any other for me, maybe a little sadder."

«Despite our commitment and the support given to us by the Municipality of Cagliari, we have recorded a 30% increase in the number of people in need», they explain from the Red Cross.
