Sindacopoli, the sentences arrive .
At the Court of Oristano the panel of judges (chaired by Carla Altieri) issued sentences for what the prosecutor's office has always defined as « a system which, thanks to a circle of trusted administrators and technicians, for years would have managed works in an illicit manner public in half of Sardinia" . The alleged crimes range from corruption to bid rigging .
For Salvatore Pinna , an engineer from Tonara, owner of Essepi Engineering, considered the director of the illicit management of the contracts, a sentence of 7 years and 6 months was received (the prosecutor Armando Mammone had asked for a sentence of 6 years and 9 months); for the former mayor of Belvì Rinaldo Arangino , a sentence of 6 years (a sentence of 3 years and 6 months had been requested); the former deputy mayor of Ortueri Pietro Crobu was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months (the prosecutor had asked for 3 years and 4 months) while Pier Paolo Sau , former mayor of Tonara, was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months (two in addition to the request of the prosecutor's office).
The panel also declared that it was not necessary to proceed due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for some crimes alleged against Pinna, Arangino, Sau, Crobu and Francesco Chessa, Viviana Stochino, Antonio Franco Fogu, Maria Lucia Fraghì, Carlo Maria Sassu, Alessandra Piras, Laila Dearca, Salvatore Casula, Paolo Vacca, Piergiorgio Peddes. Finally, Pinna, Arangino, Chessa, Dearca, Casula, Crobu and Giampaolo Porcu were acquitted of other crimes (who was acquitted on the merits for six crimes, another is barred).
The defendants were defended by Massimiliano Ravenna, Giovanni Battista Satta, Basilio Brodu, Gianfranco Sollai, Roberto Olla, Carmelino Fenudi, Marcello Mereu, Stefano Piras, Dario Romano, Daniela Russo, Mariano Mameli, Gian Luigi Mastio, Marcello Sequi, Leonardo Filippi and Marcello Caddori.
The lawyers, aside from the statute of limitations, had insisted on the inconsistency of the accusations and had asked for acquittal.
