The African anticyclone strikes Sardinia again, with temperatures reaching record highs of 48 degrees today.

The consequences are devastating: a 70-year-old man died in the extreme heat in Quartucciu , several fires , the most dangerous in the Oristano area, Medio Campidano and in Gallura . Olbia airport has diverted some flights due to the heat, in Alghero and Porto Torres the air conditioners in the rest homes are blowing.

In Jerzu the sensational 48 degrees were reached, in Siniscola 47.3, in Tortolì 46.8, in Bari Sardo 46.6, in Muravera 46, in Monti 45.6, in Uras 45.5, in Oliena 45.

However, it will be a tailspin for this torrid end of July: starting tomorrow the mistral will blow over the area with gusts, in the eastern part, of around 70 km/h in the central and hottest hours. The north-west wind will also be felt on Wednesday 26th in a large part of the island. According to the Decimomannu Air Force weather service, "the African anticyclone continues to persist in the central-southern part of the Mediterranean, but at the same time protects us from the disturbed flow that is causing damage in central-northern Italy - the experts say - Today the temperatures will still be high but from tomorrow the circulation will change with the anticyclone which gives way a little to the North-Atlantic flow, with the mistral and a substantial decrease in temperatures even down by 8 degrees".

In fact, the mistral will lower the humidity with the less torrid air and the heatwave will be less perceived, even if the risk of fires, already "high" from today, will increase.

"Marginally, the Atlantic trough will improve general conditions but without atmospheric phenomena - observe from the Am weather office - between Saturday and Sunday we will see the comeback of the African anticyclone with a new increase in temperatures but without critical values , therefore around 30 degrees in line with the averages of the period".
