Carlo Piturru, 73 years old, former official of the Port Authority and former boatswain of the Navy, has died after seven months of agony, victim of a violent road accident that occurred on the morning of June 22nd on provincial road 81, the road that connects Platamona to Porto Torres.

He was riding his Canyon mountain bike when he was hit by a Subaru while returning home. The man, originally from La Maddalena but resident in Porto Torres, died in the intensive care unit of Santissima Annunziata where he had been hospitalized since the day of the accident. The doctors tried in every way to save him, but without success.

A coma that lasted almost seven months, from which the seventy-three-year-old never woke up and which then led to his death. In the impact with the Subaru he had lost his helmet, before hitting his head on the windshield of the car.

The driver of the car, 87 years old, according to an initial reconstruction, while coming in the same direction, on the stretch of road between Abbacurrrente and Balai Lontano, had hit him in the rear wheel. The cyclist was thrown a few meters forward, ending up on the windshield and then on the ground. Carlo Piturru had suffered several injuries to his body and a serious head injury, his condition had immediately appeared critical.

Following the impact, the driver of the car immediately alerted the emergency services. Two ambulances on site, one from the Sardo Rescue Service and one medical. The injured man had been transferred to the civil hospital of Sassari under code red aboard the 118 helicopter rescue. The carabinieri of the Porto Torres company had intervened on site.
