One hundred and four interventions in one year to save a total of 124 people, especially hikers who, due to a fall or loss of orientation, were no longer able to find the return path.

These are the numbers from the 2023 activity report of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue of Sardinia , engaged daily in missions "activated" by 118, prefectures, law enforcement agencies and also on direct call.

In detail, last year there were seventy-one rescues in impervious environments carried out in collaboration with the helicopter rescue service. 435 rescuers in the field for over four thousand hours of work.

The area most at risk? Ogliastra with 35 interventions. With a particular predilection for woods and paths that lead to the discovery of paradise coves. But there's no messing around with Southern Sardinia either: twenty-eight rescue missions.

The peak of interventions (twelve) in August. But many emergency services also arrive with the first spring trips, in March.

The age of the people rescued is between fifty and sixty years old, 63% male.

As for the causes of emergency calls , falls come first, followed by loss of orientation, illness and slips. But there is no shortage of cases of "exhausted" hikers requiring assistance.

Among the mountain rescue numbers also the "loans" of technicians to the air rescue activity in the event of health problems or accidents: this happened over two thousand times in 2023.
