"Unconscious": this is the most tender opinion, obviously expressed by those who were not there, towards the young man who yesterday risked drowning in the rough waters of San Giovanni di Sinis, on the coast of Cabras. A lucky boy: it was the Cagliari swimming champion and instructor Corrado Sorrentino who noticed him in difficulty, while his girlfriend managed to reach the shore, who didn't hesitate for a moment and dived in to save his life. The detailed story of those long difficult moments - some swimmers also participated with a rope - is on the Unione Sarda on newsstands today , in the article by Valeria Pinna.

This morning, however, Sorrentino is keen to point out that recklessness has nothing to do with this matter: what happened to the rescued boy could have happened to anyone.

«Yesterday was really an accident», explains the forty-nine year old, who is about to join the City Council in Cagliari, «that boy wasn't going around acting splendid as many people think: he ended up in that flow of water that few know and which is called Rip Current."

It is a point of the sea that seems calmer and safer while the waves rage around it. In reality it is the most dangerous because the current pushes strongly towards the open sea and the only way to get out is to let yourself be dragged, without trying to counteract the force of the water, to a "quiet" point, waiting for help or to find a point from which it is possible to regain the shore.

«I hope from today it will be better remembered, or at least take it into account», warns Sorrentino.
