Crowds inside and outside the church of Sant'Eulalia this morning for the funeral of Remesha Martin King, the 31-year-old from Burundi who died at the Brotzu hospital after being hit in the head by a Ctm bus at dawn on Saturday.

Many did not want to miss the last farewell to the "Captain", so he was jokingly called by the many who knew him. There were his friends, colleagues from the bar in Piazza Yenne where he worked, but also former colleagues, and those who met him in the oratory of Sant'Eulalia and at Caritas, with which he collaborated.

Compounded by the pain of mother Prisca, sister Angela and friend Sara, also in the front row in the church. And the mother, from the altar pulpit, said a few but significant words: “I lost my son, but I feel the closeness of Cagliari. This keeps me going, he wouldn't want to see us cry ”.

The homily of Fr Marco Lai, parish priest of the church of Sant'Eulalia and director of Caritas of Cagliari, who knew him very well, was also touching: “Martin lived the world, the young and his youth. He had an extraordinary tenderness and always helped those most in need. He leaves us a legacy of love for life and for neighbor from wherever in the world it comes ”.

Mayor Paolo Truzzu was also present at the funeral ceremony, but out of respect for his family he preferred to remain silent. A group of friends and colleagues could not hold back their tears when they recalled the best moments they had with him from the altar pulpit. A long, thunderous applause accompanied the coffin as it exited the church. “Hi Martin”, many shouted as the hearse slowly left towards the cemetery.
