On 5 December doctors, nurses, midwives and healthcare managers take to the streets on the occasion of the national strike in defense of the healthcare service organized by the trade unions Anaao Assomed, Cimo-Fesmed and Nursing up. In Cagliari the appointment is for 10am in Piazza del Carmine for a sit-in protest .

«We are the lowest paid graduate healthcare professionals in Europe , we work in stressful and professionally humiliating conditions, the Sardinia Region ignores our rights, we ask for respect», explains Diego Murracino, responsible for Nursing Up Sardinia . For Susanna Montaldo , regional secretary of Anaao Assomed , «the shortage of healthcare workers in service in any department, in any hospital is known. It is impossible to guarantee efficient healthcare capable of providing answers to citizens with so few medical and health managers." «One day of strike – continues Montaldo – to guarantee the population the right to be treated and the survival of the NHS».

Luigi Mascia , regional president of Cimo Fesmed then makes it clear that «this strike is not a corporate defense but a demonstration to protect the safety of care, which citizens and healthcare workers aspire to. The National Health System is underfunded and the Essential Levels of Assistance cannot be guaranteed."
