During his mission in Kosovo he had not hesitated for a moment to support a 4-year-old girl in difficulty, suffering from diabetes mellitus. Brigadier Stefano Falchi, 52 years old originally from Sorso, was awarded the honor of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.

The awards ceremony was held in Rome where the soldier received the parchment of recognition from the hands of the President of the Republic himself, Sergio Mattarella "for having helped a little girl from Kosovo by activating a treatment path in Italy, guaranteeing its continuation also through family support”.

Stefano Falchi has promoted a fundraiser in Sardinia to support the care of the little girl, ensuring a free stay for the whole family in a tourist village. To accompany him on his mission to Pristina (Kosovo), in 2021, also his colleague Fabio Cervelleri, who received the same recognition from the Head of State.

Cervelleri had purchased insulin and blood sugar measuring instruments, guaranteeing the little girl the supply of the necessary medicines for a year. Later he undertook, in collaboration with the "Aquile tricolori" association, to get in touch with the Umberto I hospital in Rome, where the child was transferred to be treated.
