Guspini, deserving students and athletes rewarded

The award ceremonies for the children who distinguished themselves in sports and in their academic career over the past year were held in Guspini, in the historic council hall of the municipality.

The award ceremony, for "Honour of Scholastic Merit", highlighted the talent of three students from the lower secondary school . Giuseppe Porcu, Martina Casti and Giuseppe Tuveri were awarded for their outstanding results in mathematical games and at the Piga literary prize. Furthermore, Miriam Floris was honored for her degree with 110 cum laude in Prevention Techniques in the Environment and Workplaces.

In the "Sports Merit", athletes who brought honor to Guspini at a national level were awarded. Elena Kuznetsova and Alice Maria Meloni received recognition for their outstanding performances in Table Tennis, with the under-11 women's team placing second nationally, while Enrico Spano of the Guspini Cycling Union placed second at the Italian Trials Championship and first place in the 6th round of the Coppa Italia Trials.

Francesca Tuveri, Councilor for Culture, recalling Gramsci's words, underlined the profound meaning of the word "Merit": «Merit in Latin means gift. It is not success or competition, it is not having enjoyed better opportunities than others, it is not the organizing principle of a society that uses talent as a moral legitimation of inequality . Merit is an often difficult path, it is a combination of effort and ingenuity in this case put to work for the study, the most precious bridge towards the future , a real work both physical and intellectual".

The Sports Councilor, Marcello Fanari, highlighted that « this year, having raised the threshold for access to recognition, three athletes have proven to be competitive at a national level . I hope that the administration's commitment to improving sports equipment and spaces is accompanied by the successes of the Guspinesi athletes."

The purpose of the "Honour of Sporting Merit" initiative, in addition to the public award ceremony, is the permanent publication on the institutional website of the municipality of Guspini of the names of the athletes and clubs who have distinguished themselves for their sporting merit by becoming the standard -bearers of the colors of the country.
