Footprints, traces of blood and the footage of a camera that filmed them as they drove away in a car. These are the elements that framed Rubens and Bryan Carta, the two brothers aged 31 and 27 who ended up in cells for the brutal murder of Tonino Porcu, the 78-year-old retiree beaten to death in his home in Ghilarza between 21 and 22 February last.

This is what emerges from the order signed by the investigating magistrate Federica Fulgheri, who ordered both pre-trial detention in prison.

The order reconstructs the night of the crime. The two brothers, probably under the influence of cocaine, entered the house at number 45, via Regina Elena through a back door, while Porcu was sleeping.

They started rummaging for money when the old man, awakened by the noises, surprised them. The two then attacked him by hitting him repeatedly, with a blind fury, in different parts of the body, so much so that the coroner found several wounds from the face to the back. Porcu would not die immediately, but three or four hours after the brutal beating, in excruciating suffering.

The Carta brothers took the 2,000 euros in cash that were hidden in a box and drove away in a car, leaving the dying 78-year-old at home. The victim's body was only discovered several hours later by the cleaning lady and her nephew.

The two brothers have partially admitted their responsibilities, their position is equalized: "We will ask for a copy of the documents and we will evaluate how to proceed", said the lawyer Agostinagelo Marras who together with his colleague Fabio Messina defends Bryan Carta. A line identical to the one that, in all probability, will also be held by the lawyer Angelo Battista Mario Marras, who represents Rubens Carta, the first to have told the carabinieri and the prosecutor what had happened that night.
