President Mario Carboni has resigned from the Chenabura – Sardos pro Israel association .
Following the "accusations reported in L'Unione Sarda" he wrote in a statement , but we had limited ourselves to quoting a post of his in which he wrote that Gaza "must be razed to the ground like Hitler's Berlin" . A public post, written by a public figure on a public virtual space like Facebook.
A post, Carboni explains, «written at midnight after a private conversation» and « born from the strong sadness that the thought of the hostages still in the hands of Hamas causes me ». Which «may be judged excessive but it is nothing compared to what we hear every day in the Italian and Sardinian squares».
"Historical comparisons are always reductive and risky, I do not hope for further destruction of Gaza because the war is a tragedy for the two peoples and we care about the rights, peace and serenity of the entire region," continues Carboni, specifying that the post was "reductive of a broader question, 'why did no Gazan help the liberation of a single Israeli hostage?' ".
Obviously, he further specifies, «claiming that a people is guilty as a whole is a big mistake, and in these very days we are hearing more and more voices of dissent from Gaza against Hamas, and we give them all our support».
" A hastily written post - continues Carboni - cannot be exploited to attack a bipartisan cultural association where all political thoughts are expressed, even pacifist ones". Then he announces: " I resigned from the board so as not to harm the association ".
Resignation rejected by the association, "in solidarity" with its president "under attack for a private post written on his personal Facebook page" . Mario Carboni "has directed the association in a commendable way in these years, allowing the rebirth of the Jewish community in Sardinia and the rediscovery of the Jewish roots of the Sardinian people".
We "do not want Gaza to be razed to the ground, we hope for peace with the release of the hostages and the creation of two peoples. To exploit a hastily written post seems to us a political act that arises from a deep anti-Semitism ."
