Gallura has a new residence for the elderly, the structure can accommodate forty people and was inaugurated this morning in Loiri. Present were the vice president of the Region and regional councilor for Budget and Planning, Giuseppe Meloni, the mayor of Loiri Porto San Paolo, Francesco Lai and the head of cabinet of the regional councilor for Health, Paolo Tecleme. The residence has 30 rooms, including singles, doubles and triples, and is divided into two sectors, the Integrated Community for partially self-sufficient elderly people and the Social Rehabilitation Structure (SRP3). A staff of educators, psychologists and medical assistants, under the guidance of director Mariassunta Canu, operates in the “Residenze Sanitarie Galluresi” structure affiliated with the Olbia Local Health Authority. The residence, together with those of Padru, Pattada, Anela and Olbia, is owned by the company Villa San Giuseppe Srl, sole director Giuseppe Casillo.
The mayor of Loiri, Francesco Lai, says: «The construction of this residence arrived in record time and is the result of a synergy between the private sector and the municipal administration which immediately strongly believed in the project presented to us by the Villa San Giuseppe company. We then worked so that Giuseppe Casillo's dream could be achievable and we did so by quickly adapting our Puc. Today we are inaugurating a structure of great social value for our Municipality and for the entire territory." On the sidelines of the inauguration Paolo Tecleme took stock of the dramatic healthcare situation in Gallura: «Healthcare in Sardinia is a key issue: just think that to date the emergency room of the Olbia hospital has only two trained doctors who have to deal with to over 180 accesses per day. It is clear that there are problems that need to be addressed immediately. As regards integrated communities for the elderly, these are not sufficient in our territory, if we consider that between now and 2030 the average age of the population will rise considerably and therefore private planning and operations will also have to respond to the needs of the population".
