For about seven years , together with the parish priest, Father Mario Pesenti , he had governed the parishes of the Holy Family and that of San Francesco in Macomer . Father Gaetano had been under treatment in a Roman hospital for about two years now.
The last time he returned to Macomer on the occasion of Easter , where he celebrated Mass despite suffering. He was battling an incurable disease that left him no way out. His condition has worsened in recent times.
The news of his illness was punctually announced by the parish priest Father Mario, who before Christmas asked the faithful to pray for the priest. He usually celebrated mass in the church of San Francesco , where he often conversed with the parishioners. His health deteriorated further in December and this morning he died in a Roman hospital.
