"A disgrace. Instead of falling, prices continue to rise unabated today, just like yesterday. Yet another demonstration of how we continue to blithely exploit motorists."
Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Consumers Union, analyzed the data released this morning at 8:30 a.m. by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, which publishes fuel prices in Italy's regions daily. In Sardinia, in just 24 hours, self-service diesel fuel rose from €2.174 per liter on April 8th to €2.181 today. This average, of course, represents a net increase of 7 cents. Gasoline prices saw a more modest increase, from €1.790 per liter to €1.794, up 4 cents, still the second-highest daily increase in Italy (it was €5 cents in Abruzzo and Emilia-Romagna). For context: on the island on March 3rd, when the effects of the US and Israeli attack on Iran began to be felt, diesel was selling for €1.762 per liter, while gasoline was selling for €1.700.
However, there are those who are even worse off: in Calabria the threshold of 2.2 euros for diesel has been exceeded.
"Prices should have dropped already yesterday, given that, following Trump's declarations about the two-week truce, oil (WTI) had already fallen 10% by 1:00 AM last night and 18% by 2:00 AM," Dona continues. "Then yesterday, oil prices closed nosedive in New York at $94.41, with prices losing more than 16.41%. Yet, on average, no one reduced prices. Outrageous," Dona concludes.
