He would have turned 20 tomorrow, August 1st. Instead the life of Cristian Piras was interrupted on the road of the Two Seas: he died in a terrible head-on crash that occurred halfway between his hometown, Porto Torres, and Sassari.

According to an initial reconstruction, with a dynamic still to be verified by the local police of Sassari, the young man was driving home aboard a black Punto when for reasons yet to be ascertained he would have invaded the oncoming lane. Here, on the other side, a white Fiat Cinquecento was arriving, driven by 45-year-old Gavino Deligios, a resident of Alghero.

The impact was devastating. Piras' car crumpled up and he was crushed between the metal sheets: when help arrived at the scene of the accident, there was nothing they could do for the boy and the Alghero fire brigade had to work long hours to extract the body from the cockpit.

Deligios' Fiat flew off the road: the driver was transferred to the Santissima Annunziata in Sassari by air ambulance, but his conditions do not cause particular concern.
