From May 17th on newsstands with L'Unione Sarda the volume dedicated to the golden eagle, queen of the skies of the Island
The appointment with the volumes of the series “The protagonists of nature” continues, created in collaboration with Ilisso EdizioniStarting from Saturday 17 May, the new volume of the series “I personaggi della natura”, created in collaboration with Ilisso Edizioni, will be available in newsstands with L'Unione Sarda .
The protagonist this time is the golden eagle , one of the most fascinating and rare symbols of the Sardinian fauna.
Known in the Sardinian language as s'abbila, àgula or àe , the golden eagle is an imposing bird of prey, with a wingspan that can exceed two metres .
In Sardinia today there are just over 30 couples, who find refuge in remote and wild areas such as Tavolara, Gennargentu and Supramonte . The nests, built on high rocky walls, are monitored and studied by researchers and volunteers who have been working for years for its protection.
Tavolara, in particular, is a special place. Also known as “the smallest kingdom in the world”, the island is home to one of the few stable pairs of golden eagles. A perfect setting where history and nature intertwine: today the last symbolic heir of this monarchy is Tonino Bertoleoni , descendant of the royal family of Tavolara.
The volume coming out on May 17 offers scientific insights, spectacular photographs and stories that allow you to get to know this extraordinary animal up close . An opportunity to reflect on the importance of biodiversity conservation in Sardinia and on our bond with the territory.
The bond with the local fauna is an ancient one in Sardinia: just think of Eleonora d'Arborea, who in the 14th century was the first to introduce rules for the protection of animals, especially falcons . A legacy that today lives on in the sensitivity and commitment to the protection of Sardinian fauna.
