A Falcon 900 from the 31st Wing, one of the military assets always ready for take-off for this type of mission, performed an emergency medical transport from Cagliari to Ciampino to save a newborn baby hospitalized in Monserrato and transferred to the "Bambino Gesù" Pediatric Hospital in Rome.
The intervention was coordinated by the Italian Air Force at the request of the Prefecture of Cagliari.
The Air Force Command's Situation Room quickly activated the crew to respond to the emergency. To ensure maximum safety and stability during the journey, the baby traveled in a heated bassinet, assisted by a two-person medical team and accompanied by her parents.
Emergency medical transport missions "are among the Air Force's institutional duties. Aircraft and crews operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to ensure the transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs and medical teams for transplants," the Air Force said in a statement.
