Sardinia also takes to the streets on the occasion of the Global Climate Strike , scheduled for April 19, the climate strike organized throughout Italy. On the island, in Cagliari , the procession promoted by Fridays for Future Casteddu and Ultima Generazione Sardegna will leave around 4.30 pm in Via Roma, in front of the Regional Council.

Among the hot topics of the protest are not only the climate crisis but also the water crisis , which has brought breeders and farmers to their knees forced to experience an emergency situation, especially in central-eastern Sardinia, Ogliastra and Baronia. «The extremely dry winter – explained the organizers – that has just ended and the increase in temperatures due to global warming have further aggravated the situation. This requires immediate government action aimed at reducing both water losses and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as repairing current and future damage."

Among the critical issues there are also «the institutions that in Sardinia must intervene to mitigate the effects of the climate crisis. At the same time, they must work for the drastic reduction of fossil fuels on the island, promoting the phase out of coal by next year , drawing up a plan to close the Sarroch refinery and interrupting any further methanization projects." The protest concerns the national government which «instead of worrying about implementing adaptation measures to prevent environmental and economic damage in Sardinia, only increases military spending, with military servitudes that take away 35 thousand hectares of land from the Sardinians without listening to the citizens who have been calls for divestment. We strongly ask the Italian government to establish a preventative repair fund to deal with the devastating consequences of drought, fires and floods." Environmentalists also appealed to the regional council, which will take office next week, to "act urgently to address the climate and water crisis, stemming water leaks in water networks".
