The two dismissals contested by the unions at Fluorsid were not withdrawn, nor did the company convene the requested meeting. Consequently, following the employee meeting, the local secretariats of Filctem Cgil, Femca Cisl, and Uiltec Uil, together with the union representatives, called for a sit-in in front of the plant on July 31st, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The unions announced that the initiative will be open to local institutions, mayors, and the press. The aim is to inform the public about what is happening in Macchiareddu, the responsibility of Fluorsid management.

A meeting has been called by the Department of Industry for July 29th at 12:00 PM to inform the unions about the outcome of the July 22nd meeting with Fluorsid. "It's clear," say union secretaries Giampiero Manca (Filctem), Mattia Carta (Femca), and Pierluigi Loi (Uiltec), "that if the company doesn't withdraw the two layoffs and reopen the discussion, we will be forced to step up the level of mobilization to restore normalcy to a situation that this company, a recipient of public funds, is incomprehensibly managing unilaterally and incoherently."
