On the first death from Covid in northern Sardinia comes the acquittal because "the fact does not exist". This is the sentence handed down, shortly after 2 pm, by the investigating judge Sergio De Luca in the proceedings opened for manslaughter against the two medical guards, Lucio Zirattu and Maria Caterina Cherchi, accused because they would not have investigated the clinical picture of Roberto Pais, the peddler of Ossi died on March 22, 2020 in the intensive care unit of the Santissima Annunziata in Sassari .

A decision that comes at the end of the abbreviated procedure chosen by the two doctors and which, again today, saw a discussion between the parties lasting over three hours. The prosecutor Paolo Piras had asked for one year and four months of prison for both, present in the courtroom, defended by lawyers Nicola Satta and Luca D'Alò while the civil party, for Margherita Dore, widow of Pais, was represented by the lawyer Alessandra Delrio.

The first victim of the coronavirus in the Sassarese area had shown cough, fever and tiredness since 8 March two years ago, to which, in the last period, dyspnoea had been added. In the meantime, some telephone contacts had been made with the two continuity of care doctors who had prescribed the antibiotic but without visiting the 51-year-old in person and without hearing him directly on the phone.

To understand now if the prosecutor will decide to appeal.
