Two orders of house arrest were carried out by the Investigative Unit of the Forestry Inspectorate of Cagliari against two people from Segariu and San Gavino, held responsible for two arson attacks.
It was last September 22 when two fires broke out along State Road 547 between Segariu and Guasila. The flames attacked the dry vegetation driven by the strong sirocco.
On site, the extinguishing operations were coordinated by the Forestry Corps with the intervention of 3 helicopters and teams on the ground. The fire affected a total of 55 hectares of vegetation including reforestation, uncultivated land, vineyards and pastures.
From the technical findings and testimonies, the investigators collected a series of pieces of evidence, including images, against two people: they had stopped, aboard a vehicle, in the road bump, the driver was getting ready to leave , the passenger had gotten out to start the flames in the escarpment.
A farmer from Segariu and one of his employees ended up in trouble, they would have acted to restore grazing in an area where the abundant presence of vegetation did not allow it.
The prosecutor, having examined the material, requested the application of precautionary measures - also considering the danger of recurrence - for the crime of forest fire: the maximum penalty foreseen reaches 15 years' imprisonment.
With these arrests, in 2022 a total of nine precautionary measures were carried out in Sardinia for fire-related events.
