Flooding, tornadoes, intense rains, strong heat waves: just some of the extreme climatic events reported for Sardinia in the 2021 Report of the Legambiente CittàClima Observatory.

An in-depth study that places the island, with 12 events, among the 14 most affected areas in Italy.

According to Legambiente at a national level, from 2010 to November 1, 2021, 1,118 extreme weather events were recorded (133 in the last year, + 17.2% compared to the last edition of the report) in 602 municipalities (+95 compared to last year, almost + 18%) with 261 victims (9 in the first ten months of this year alone).

The most affected city was the capital, followed by Milan and Bari.

In addition, 486 cases of flooding due to heavy rains have been recorded, 406 cases of stop to infrastructures due to heavy rains with 83 days of stops in subways and urban trains. And 308 events with damage caused by tornadoes, 134 events caused by river floods, 48 cases of damage caused by prolonged periods of drought and extreme temperatures, 41 cases of landslides caused by intense rains and 18 cases of damage to historical heritage .
