Zero emissions by January 1st 2030. The date that provides for the total decarbonisation of private homes, through the improvement of energy efficiency, is foreseen by the European green homes directive, which is part of the Fit for 55 reform package: the so-called Green Deal for fight climate change.

Some define it as "madness", others as an enormous "opportunity". Italy voted against Ecofin, but the path seems to be clear.

The European provision on the "performance" of properties, according to a rough estimate made by Confartigianato, in Sardinia could concern almost 90 thousand private buildings, 17% of the total (we are in sixth place in the country). The worst situation is in the province of Sassari (19% are in very bad or mediocre conditions), then in Ogliastra (18.1%), in Oristano (17.9%), in Medio Campidano (17.8%), in Cagliari (16.8%), Carbonia-Iglesias (16.5%). The best picture is found in the Olbia-Tempio area with a seniority percentage of 13.9%.

For the regional councilor for urban planning Francesco Spanedda "the hope is that the Italian law" which will translate the European dictate onto national soil "is also written in collaboration with the Regions, in such a way as to allow interventions consistent with local characteristics, including entrepreneurial and economic ones".

The incentives, adds the member of the Todde Council, "will be fundamental in a territory like the Sardinian one, in which the current economic and demographic situation does not facilitate the maintenance of the built heritage and its redevelopment".
